Various common symbolism are used for Shiva higher state our our consciousness.
He has no fear (भीति) of the most venomous snakes (on his body), nor special attachment (प्रीति) towards moon that gives out nectar (residing in his tresses);
He does not become impure (अशौचं ) because of dangling skull (कपाल) garland (दाम) (around neck), nor does he becomes purified (शौचं) by being washed by waters of Ganga (entrapped and dripping from his matted hair);
He is not agitated (उद्वेग) by ash of funeral pyre that is smeared on body (indication mortal part of body), nor has he any pleasure (सुख) by intimate embrace with Gauri (his consort Shakti शक्ति ) .
As he is self absorbed (आत्म रमण ) and tranquil (समः) hence not affected by anything that is beneficial (हित) nor anything that is detrimental (अहित) to him (Shiva is beyond duality of this world).
May that Shiva (हरः) who resides in self (स्वस्थः) protect (पातुः) us. (May we become one with this form)
