बिना कुछ भी किये सुख से (भरता, अनुभूति कराता  है) और दुःखों को दूर करता है - जो जिसका प्रिय है वह उसका निश्चय ही अनमोल धन है।

सौख्यै: = सुख से (तृतीया बहुवचन) 
दुःखानि = दुःख को (द्वितीयाबहुवचन) 
अपोहित = दूर करता है 
दुःखानि+अपोहित = दुःखान्यपोहति (यण सन्धि)

Without doing anything they cause pleasure and remove afflictions. Therefore those you love are surely your treasures.

Arthashastra अर्थशास्त्र is a statecraft text that covers a  mindboggling array of topics. It was written ~2500 years ago and complies previous texts on the subject as well. 

पृथिव्या लाभे पालने च यावन्त्यर्थशास्त्राणि पूर्वाचार्यैः प्रस्थापितानि प्रायशस्तानि संहृत्यैकमिदमर्थशास्त्रं कृतम् ॥

The content seems to be relevant even in today's day and age. We have to apply the principles to the new age contexts.  Today physical proximity is no longer relevant to threats faced by nation, globalization has brought world closer and misinformation is being weaponized.  

The word अर्थ (Artha) itself has multiple interpretations. अर्थ is considered as one of four पुरुषार्थ (object of human pursuit) मोक्ष धर्म काम  (Moksha, Dharma and Kama) being other three.  

Arthashastra अर्थशास्त्र

While अर्थ (Artha) does mean wealth/prosperity it also means:

प्रयोजने इष्टे। प्रयोजनंच इच्छाविषयः। (Desire/intention)

निमित्ते - निमित्तञ्च कारणनुद्देष्यञ्च तत्रानिमित्तार्थेन्   (Cause/reason)

ज्ञेयवस्तुनि - इन्द्रियार्थ संनिकर्षोत्पन्नमं  ज्ञानं प्रत्यक्षं    (To be known by senses/ through direct experience)

Arthashastra has 15 chapters, 150 sections and close to six thousand verses. Currently there would be very few individuals who would understand even the first chapter where the structure and content of subsequent topics are laid out.

शास्त्रसमुद्देशः पञ्चदशाधिकरणानि साशीति.प्रकरण शतं सपञ्चाशदध्यायशतं  षट्.श्लोकसहस्राणि इति ॥

I have referred to a few texts on the subject (Sanskrit - Hindi and English) They seem to be inadequate for general readers. 

1. The English text build on previous translations and have little or no understanding of what the original words mean. They do not quote the original text. 
2. Even the Hindi translations to a large extent only copy the same Sanskrit words in the text without making any further elaboration or assisting in understanding.
3. The recent authors seem to spend more time on explaining the societal constructs than on the principles contained in the text. 

Some of the Sanskrit words are no longer in common usage while their definitions are available elsewhere.

यातव्य    (पड़ोशी शत्रु) जिस पर सहज में आक्रमण किया जा सकता हो - Nearby enemy to be marched against.

When the darkness is entering then the lamp we should laboriously light  should have foundation of truth, oil of austerity, wick of compassion and flame of tolerance.

जिसको बिना ध्यान, जप इत्यादि के ऐसे ही बिना किसी विधि के (अनुग्रह /अनुपाय द्वारा) शिव स्वरुप का साक्षात्कार (आभास = प्रकाश ) प्राप्त (स्फ़ुरण ) हो रहा है उस भक्तिवान को नमन है (से मै एकात्म्य हो रहा हूँ)।


One who achieves (stays in) highest state of consciousness (Unity with Shiva state) without any meditation, without efforts to maintain (remain in) this state or without any external means (or progression / spontaneous) my salutations to him (I am becoming that)

महाकवि कालिदास विरचित कुमारसंभवम् सर्ग 2 श्लोक 9 -10 

2.9

O lord the world (जगत: = One that moves/changes external physical manifestations and internal perceived states) originates (योनिः) from you, you yourself do not have any origin (अयोनिः = अविद्यमानः योनिः यस्य सः) .The world ends (जगतः अन्तः)  but nothing brings you to an end (निरन्तकः = निर्गतः अन्तः यस्मात् सः). You exist before creation (जगतम् आदिः) but there is nothing that precedes you (अनादि = अविद्यमान आदिर्यस्य सः). You are the lord of this world (जगताम्  ईशः) and you yourself have no lords (निरिश्वरः = निर्गतः ईश्वरः यस्मात्  सः)  

2.10

You know (वेत्सि ) yourself by yourself. You create (सृजसि) yourself (to know one's capability) by yourself.  And on attaining the purpose you dissolve your own form into yourself (प्रलियसे).

Everything is illuminated in that light, by this light alone everything (reality/forms) appears. Sun, Moon, Stars, Lightning or this fire can not illuminate it by their own light.

For whom else were offerings to be made, who else was to be worshipped but Him, the only one, the Atman?

“What is meditation? What is leaving one’s body? What is fasting? What is holding one’s breath? It is fleeing from the self, it is a short escape of the agony of being a self, it is a short numbing of the senses against the pain and the pointlessness of life. 

 

We find comfort, we find numbness, we learn feats, to deceive others. But the most important thing, the path of paths, we will not find.”

It took me a long time and am not finished learning this yet, oh Govinda: that there is nothing to be learned! There is indeed no such thing, so I believe, as what we refer to as ‘learning’. There is, oh my friend, just one knowledge, this is everywhere, this is Atman, this is within me and within you and within every creature. And so I’m starting to believe that this knowledge has no worser enemy than the desire to know it, than learning.” 

 

Gotama

You have found salvation from death. It has come to you in the course of your own search, on your own path, through thoughts, through meditation, through realizations, through enlightenment. It has not come to you by means of teachings! And – thus is my thought, oh exalted one, – nobody will obtain salvation by means of teachings! You will not be able to convey and say to anybody, oh venerable one, in words and through teachings what has happened to you in the hour of enlightenment! 

 

Awakening

I was afraid of myself, I was fleeing from myself! I searched Atman, I searched Brahman, I was willing to dissect my self and peel off all of its layers, to find the core of all peels in its unknown interior, the Atman, life, the divine part,

The purpose and the essential properties were not somewhere behind the things, they were in them, in everything.

 

Kamala

It is true that he had already known for a long time that his self was Atman, in its essence bearing the same eternal characteristics as Brahman. But never, he had really found this self, because he had wanted to capture it in the net of thought. With the body definitely not being the self, and not the spectacle of the senses, so it also was not the thought, not the rational mind, not the learned wisdom, not the learned ability to draw conclusions and to develop previous thoughts in to new ones. 

 

Siddhartha does nothing, he waits, he thinks, he fasts, but he passes through the things of the world like a rock through water, without doing anything, without stirring; he is drawn, he lets himself fall.

 

The Ferryman

Nothing was, nothing will be; everything is, everything has existence and is present.”

Slowly blossomed, slowly ripened in Siddhartha the realisation, the knowledge, what wisdom actually was, what the goal of his long search was. It was nothing but a readiness of the soul, an ability, a secret art, to think every moment, while living his life, the thought of oneness, to be able to feel and inhale the oneness. 

 

Govinda

“When someone is searching,” said Siddhartha, “then it might easily happen that the only thing his eyes still see is that what he searches for, that he is unable to find anything, to let anything enter his mind, because he always thinks of nothing but the object of his search, because he has a goal, because he is obsessed by the goal. Searching means: having a goal. But finding means: being free, being open, having no goal.

Knowledge can be conveyed, but not wisdom. It can be found, it can be lived, it is possible to be carried by it, miracles can be performed with it, but it cannot be expressed in words and taught. This was what I, even as a young man, sometimes suspected, what has driven me away from the teachers. I have found a thought, Govinda, which you’ll again regard as a joke or foolishness, but which is my best thought. It says: the opposite of every truth is just as true! That's like this: any truth can be expressed or put into words when it is one-sided. 

Everything is one-sided which can be thought with thoughts and said with words, it’s all one-sided, all just one half, all lacks completeness, roundness, oneness.

भक्तानां हृदयं मदीय हृदयं रूपं तदीयं मम

तत्कर्मैव ममास्ति कर्म निखिलं व्यक्तःएवास्महं

किं भेदं परिकल्प्य खिद्यासि मुहुर्ध्वस्तेपि भेदे मया

शक्तिर्मेस्ति समस्त वैभववती या राजते त्वयिSपि

 

भक्तों का हृदय ही मेरा हृदय है।  उनका जो रूप है वही मेरा है। भक्तों की सभी कर्म व्यक्त रूप में मेरी ही क्रियाएं हैं।  मैंने तुम्हारे साथ भेद को धवस्त (छोड़) कर दिया है फिर तुम भेद की कल्पना कर के बार बार क्यों खेद कर रहे हो?  मेरी समस्त वैभवशाली शक्तियाँ तुममें भी प्रस्फुरित हैं।

The essence (core/heart) of my believers is my essence. Their form is my form. Whatever acts they perform are my actions in visible from. I have demolished all the differences between us then why you are distressing yourself by assuming this imaginary difference? All my glorious energies are vibrating in you as well.

Readings: Vigyan Bhairava विज्ञान भैरव verses 1-13 summary

Vigyan here implies experiential knowledge, pure consciousness, awareness rather than analytical knowledge.



Nature of Bhairava 

 I am manifesting the universe in the space of my own consciousness, I am the creator, being of the nature of everything. Abhinavagupta (Tantraloka III.283-285)

Bhairava (भैरव) is of the nature of pure I-consciousness (अहं ) which is therefore resounding in every conscious being. He pervades, sustains and absorbs the universe. He liberates beings from the fear (भय = fear ) of samsara and he illumines everything with his ligth (भा = very bright light). By becoming becoming one with non-dual I-consciousness one can attain the Bhairava nature (Tantraloka II.283)



After previously listening to the Trika / Trantra completely as explained by Shiva (Bhairava) Parvati (Bhairavi) had few doubts that she wants to be clarified (1-7)

• What is essence of reality (तत्वतो)
• What is form of energy (शक्तिस्वरुपकम्)
• चक्रारूढमनच्कं = in vibration (स्पन्द) or without movement (अस्पन्द) or appearance of no movement when in motion and vice versa
• Can the Sakala form (सकल रूप) of energy states be same Lower (अपरा ) medium (परापरा ) and supreme (परा)

Sakala (सकल) -  Where there is any sensation of space, time or formKalna means that which can be perceived, that which can be heard, that which can be seen that which can be touched. 

Bhairava is pleased to response and state 8-9
All the different paths and ways expounded in texts are useless and like delusion. It is maya, like dream or  castles in air (गन्धर्वनगरभ्रमं)

ध्यानार्थं भ्रांतबुद्धिनां क्रियाडम्बरवर्तिनाम।
केवलं वर्णितं पुंसां विकल्पनिहितात्मनां ।।10

The various ways (in Tantra) are are only described for people who are indecisive/doubtful (विकल्प). .  These people are not steadfast mind (भ्रांतबुद्धिनां) and take pleasure in performing superfluous actions (क्रियाडम्बर).

Bhairava in next few verses (11-13) goes on to refute all the doubts (this or that type of queries) and states that the ways established in Tantras are like diverting ignorant boys from bad actions (बालविभीषिकाः).
