High to low

The normal flow is from high to low
Things atrophy yet we grow

Does nature's equity differentiate
Between the living and inanimate

We are one of means to change state
What we do is consume and dissipate

Simply put what living beings eat
Is converted to sustenance plus heat

Do the living have any more to show
Than to be, consume and grow?

One factor that can go other way
Consciousness - what say?
